Bricks Per m² Calculator

Work out the approximate number of bricks per square metre of walling. Enter the actual brick dimensions and mortar joint to get a more useful estimate than using a generic bricks-per-metre figure.

How many bricks are there in a square metre?

There is no single answer because brick dimensions and mortar joints vary. A common 215 × 65 mm brick with a 10 mm joint gives a planning figure of roughly 60 bricks per square metre of face area.

The calculator uses the brick length plus the horizontal joint and brick height plus the vertical joint to estimate the coverage of each course unit.

Use the actual brick size

For a replacement project, check the recorded dimensions of the brick rather than assuming a standard size. The Find My Brick catalogue contains individual product records with dimensions and identification information.

Planning estimate: openings, bond, cuts, breakages and site conditions can change the final quantity. Add waste and confirm the order with your supplier.
