Privacy Policy

Find My Brick respects your privacy. This policy explains what information may be processed when you use the website and how it is used to provide and improve the service.

Effective date: 10 October 2026

Photos submitted for identification

When you submit a brick photograph, the image and any optional measurements are sent to the identification service to analyse the brick and provide a result. Please avoid including people, addresses, documents or other unnecessary personal information.

For photographs submitted through the identification tool, the identification feedback dataset is not intended to retain the original image itself. The service may generate structured technical observations from the image, such as colour, texture and other brick characteristics, together with candidate and result information used to provide and improve identification. This is separate from the optional “Contribute a Photo” form, which stores submitted images privately for catalogue review as explained below.

Identification results, feedback and service-improvement data

When an identification is processed, Find My Brick may retain limited metadata about the identification event. This can include technical brick characteristics detected during the analysis, whether dimensions were supplied, the catalogue candidates considered, the result or results returned and their confidence information. We do not intentionally use this data to create a named user profile.

If you choose to give feedback on an identification, such as marking it correct or incorrect, that feedback may be linked to the identification event so that we can measure and improve identification quality.

This information is used to operate and improve the brick-identification service, improve catalogue records and develop aggregated identification intelligence. Where appropriate and subject to applicable data-protection requirements, aggregated insights may be used internally or shared with industry partners such as brick manufacturers, merchants and reclamation businesses.

Information you provide

You may provide a brick photograph, optional measurements and feedback. You may also contact us by email. We use this information to provide the requested service, improve identification quality, respond to enquiries and maintain the website.

Aggregate Search & Market-Intelligence Analytics

Find My Brick may collect limited, aggregate information about how visitors use our brick catalogue and identification services. This may include the brick or product being viewed and the date or period of the interaction.

We design this functionality to minimise the information collected. It does not require you to create an account or provide your name, email address or telephone number. We do not intentionally create individual user profiles from these analytics events.

The information may be used to understand which bricks are being researched, improve the Find My Brick service and identify broader trends in brick and building-material demand. Where appropriate, aggregated insights may be used internally or shared with industry partners such as brick manufacturers, merchants and reclamation businesses.

We will not treat information as anonymous merely because obvious identifiers such as names or email addresses are absent. Where information may constitute personal data, we will handle it in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements.

How we use this information and lawful basis

We process information where necessary to provide the identification service you request and, where applicable, on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating, securing, maintaining and improving Find My Brick, improving identification accuracy and understanding aggregate demand for brick-identification services. Where consent is required, such as for non-essential analytics cookies, we rely on your consent.

Automated identification

Find My Brick uses automated analysis to suggest brick identifications. This is a service feature and is not intended to make decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects. Human review or additional evidence may be appropriate where an identification is uncertain.

Analytics

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand website usage. Google Analytics is not loaded until you accept analytics through the cookie consent banner. You can change your choice using Cookie settings.

Affiliate links

Some supplier links are affiliate links. If you follow one and make a qualifying purchase, Find My Brick may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. External suppliers and affiliate platforms have their own policies and technologies.

Cookies

Find My Brick uses essential browser storage to remember your cookie choice. With your consent, Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies. Non-essential analytics technologies are not loaded before consent. See our Cookie Policy.

Third-party services and links

The website may use third-party technology providers for brick identification, hosting, analytics and database services, and may link to supplier or affiliate websites. Their own privacy policies apply. Where a service provider processes information on our behalf, we take appropriate steps to require it to handle information in accordance with applicable requirements.

Data retention and security

We keep information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, service improvement, security and legal obligations. Identification-event metadata and feedback are retained only for as long as they remain useful for these purposes or as required by law, after which they may be deleted or aggregated. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, but no online service is completely secure.

Your rights

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict use of information, object to certain processing and withdraw consent. Contact us to make a request. If you believe your data-protection rights have not been respected, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Updates

We may update this policy when our website, technology or data practices change. The effective date will be updated when material changes are made.

Photos submitted to the catalogue

If you submit a brick photo for catalogue review, the image, associated catalogue record, submission status and timestamp are stored privately in the photo-review database. Your browser resizes and compresses the image before upload. An optional email address is used for submission-related follow-up and is not displayed publicly. A review notification may be sent to the FindMyBrick review contact with the image attached.

Photos are not published automatically. A reviewer checks each submission, and approval in the review dashboard does not itself publish the image. Submissions are retained while under review and for as long as reasonably necessary to manage the catalogue, maintain review records, handle rights requests, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. You may request access to or deletion of information associated with your submission by contacting enquiries@findmybrick.uk, subject to applicable law and legitimate retention needs. Read the Photo Submission Terms for more detail.
