About FindMyBrick.uk

Built to make UK brick identification easier

FindMyBrick.uk was created to solve a simple but surprisingly difficult problem: you have an existing construction brick in a wall and need to work out what it is, or find something close enough to repair, extend or match the building.

For UK homeowners, builders, bricklayers, renovators and DIYers, the usual process can mean searching through hundreds of brick products, comparing photographs and trying to work out which colour, texture and size is actually relevant. FindMyBrick.uk brings those clues together in one place.

Built for the UKBrick sizes, terminology, manufacturers and catalogue information are focused on UK brickwork.

Why we built it

Brick identification is often harder than it looks. Two bricks can appear almost identical in a photograph while having different dimensions, textures, manufacturing characteristics or product histories. Conversely, the same brick can look very different after years of weathering, staining or exposure.

We wanted a tool that starts with the information people actually have: a photograph of the wall or brick, the physical dimensions if they can be measured, and visible clues such as texture, colour variation, edges, frogs and maker's marks.

That is why FindMyBrick.uk is being developed as both an identification tool and a growing UK brick catalogue. The aim is not simply to produce a name, but to give people useful evidence they can use when researching a replacement.

How FindMyBrick.uk approaches identification

1. Visual clues

The identification process considers visible characteristics such as colour, texture, surface appearance and shape. A clear close-up photograph gives the system more useful information than a distant photograph of an entire wall.

2. Physical measurements

Length, width and height can be important when visually similar bricks come from different ranges or periods. Measurements are optional, but they can help narrow the possibilities.

3. Catalogue comparison

Potential matches are compared with records in the FindMyBrick.uk UK brick catalogue. Catalogue records can include manufacturer, product name or code, dimensions, colour, texture, regional information and other available characteristics.

4. Human verification still matters

A photograph is evidence, not proof. Lighting, cameras, weathering, staining, mortar, age and reclaimed materials can all affect appearance. We therefore encourage users to treat results as a shortlist and verify a physical sample and current manufacturer or supplier information before ordering.

Our catalogue approach

FindMyBrick.uk is building a structured catalogue of individual UK brick products so that identification results can be connected to useful product-level information. Where source or manufacturer references are available, they are provided on catalogue records so users can carry out their own checks.

The catalogue is an ongoing project. Products can change, become discontinued, be renamed or be sold through different suppliers, so we do not present the catalogue as a guarantee that a particular product is currently manufactured or available.

Our principle: if we cannot be confident that a photograph proves an exact brick, we would rather present a useful shortlist and explain the limitation than pretend the answer is certain.

Who FindMyBrick.uk is for

The tool is intended for anyone who needs to identify or research an existing construction brick, including homeowners carrying out repairs, builders and tradespeople matching extensions, renovators working on older properties, DIYers replacing damaged bricks, and people researching old or reclaimed brickwork.

What FindMyBrick.uk is — and isn't

FindMyBrick.uk is an independent construction-brick identification and research service. It is not a brick manufacturer, merchant or laboratory, and an identification result should not be treated as a technical certification, structural recommendation or guarantee of suitability.

Before buying bricks for a project, check the physical sample, product specification, dimensions, colour and texture with the relevant manufacturer or supplier. For structural or regulatory questions, use an appropriately qualified professional.

Keeping the service useful and honest

We will continue improving the catalogue, identification process, guides and calculators as the site develops. When something is uncertain, the goal is to make that uncertainty clear rather than hide it behind an over-confident result.

If you spot an incorrect catalogue record, an unsuitable identification or information that needs updating, we want to hear about it. Corrections and useful feedback help make the catalogue more reliable for everyone.
